Who We Are

Heavy-Duty Capability.
Surgical Precision.

For over two decades, Southwest Demolition & Grading has been the contractor builders, developers, and municipalities call when earth has to be shaped exactly right. Based in Phoenix, we pair a modern fleet of motor graders, bulldozers, and skid steers with a veteran crew that treats every site like their own backyard.

From the first cut to final sign-off, we handle the full lifecycle of grading — balancing cut and fill, dialing in drainage, and compacting soils to engineered spec, so your site is level, stable, and ready for the next phase of construction.

Rough Grading

Cut. Fill. Balance.
Done Right.

Every great site starts with rough grading — the heavy earthwork that brings your property within striking distance of its design elevations. We cut the highs, fill the lows, and balance material on-site whenever possible to keep hauling to a minimum.

Our operators strip and stockpile topsoil for reuse, establish building pads, and rough-shape drainage patterns — setting the stage for finish grading and construction to follow without surprises.

  • Cut-and-fill balancing to minimize off-haul
  • Topsoil stripping, stockpiling & re-spread
  • Building pad establishment to design subgrade

    Finish Grading

    A Clean Slate.
    Perfectly Graded.

Finish grading is where precision matters most. After rough grading sets the shape, our crews dial in the final elevations to the exact slope and tolerance your plans call for — using laser- and GPS-guided equipment to eliminate bumps, dips, and low spots.

The result is a pad-perfect surface that’s 100% ready for your concrete pour, paving, or landscaping — no settling, no ponding water, no costly rework for the trades that follow.

    Leveling & Pads

    Level Ground.
    A Solid Start.

Whether you’re prepping a homesite, a parking lot, a sports field, or an agricultural parcel, true level ground is the foundation everything else depends on. We bring uneven, rutted, and sloped terrain into a uniform plane — engineered to support whatever you build on top of it.

We build and compact structural fill pads to the density your soils engineer requires, then verify the work so your foundation crew can break ground with total confidence.

    Drainage & Compaction

    Shaped For Water.
    Built To Last.

Grading is about more than a flat surface — it’s about managing how water moves across your property. We sculpt swales, slopes, and retention areas that direct storm runoff away from structures and foundations, protecting your investment from erosion and water damage.

Every layer we place is compacted and tested to the density your project demands, preventing the settling and shifting that cracks concrete and destabilizes structures for years to come.

    Questions

    Before You Ask.

What’s the difference between rough grading and finish grading?

Rough grading is the heavy earthwork — cutting, filling, and moving material to bring your site close to its designed elevations. Finish grading is the precise pass that follows: dialing in final slopes, elevations, and a smooth, uniform surface using laser- or GPS-guided equipment, ready for paving, concrete, or landscaping.

Do you work from survey stakes and engineering plans?

Absolutely. We grade directly from your civil plans and survey stakes, and we coordinate with your soils engineer and surveyor throughout the project. We can also assist with establishing benchmarks and verifying elevations as the work progresses, so the final grades match your approved plans exactly.

How do you handle drainage and stormwater?

Proper drainage is built into every grade we cut. We slope surfaces to direct runoff away from foundations, shape swales and channels to carry water to designated areas, and build retention or detention basins where your plans call for them. Our grades meet local stormwater requirements to prevent ponding, erosion, and water intrusion.

    How do you verify compaction?

Structural fill and building pads are placed in lifts and compacted to the density percentage your geotechnical report specifies. We work with your soils engineer for field density testing (Proctor/nuclear gauge), so every layer is documented and verified before the next phase of construction begins — no settling surprises down the road.

How long does a typical grading project take?

A single residential lot can often be rough and finish graded in one to a few days, while large commercial sites with significant cut-and-fill can run from several days to multiple weeks. Timeline depends on site size, soil conditions, weather, and the scope of work. We’ll give you a firm schedule before mobilization.
